THURSDAY EVENINGS BEGINNING JANUARY 9, 2020 (THRU FEB 13, 2020)

A 7-session program specifically designed for small companies, including Minority and Women Owned Businesses, working to expand their annual income levels and compete in the upstate NY commercial construction industry. Each session will focus on specific topics that will give you the skills and knowledge to grow your construction company business. Our speakers will present informative and educational material that will give your firm valuable insight and perspective on how to successfully manage a construction business. Sessions will take place on Thursday evenings from 4:30pm-6:30pm beginning January 9, 2020.

Join us for a Lunch & Learn on 1/15/20 to hear from local non-profit, David's Refuge, on the services they offer to parents and guardians of children with special needs or fragile medical conditions. Parenting can be a difficult journey under any circumstances, but it's especially challenging for those who give full-time care to children with special needs. That's where David's Refuge steps in, providing respite, resources and support to parents so they are refreshed, restored and renewed in their role as caregivers. Come to learn more about the services they offer, and that you can offer to your friends, family and fellow employees.

This is a free event for SBE member firms. Lunch will take place beginning at 11:30 with the presentation to follow beginning at noon.

The Syracuse Builders Exchange (“SBE”) has partnered with the Syracuse City School District’s Career & Technical Education Program (“CTE”) in an effort to support the students and teachers engaged in the construction, welding and electrical pathway programs.

The CTE program is requesting participation from local construction industry employers to supplement the classroom curriculum. An interactive informational seminar will be held on January 15, 2020 at 3 PM at SBE. Educators from the SCSD CTE program will be in attendance discussing the unique and exclusive pathway programs for students who want a construction career upon graduation. In addition, they will review how contractors can participate in grooming these impressionable juniors and seniors in high school. Such areas include:

Work base learning initiatives
Career coaching
Shadowing experiences
Internship opportunities
Guest speakers

OSHA 10-Hour - January 29 and 30, 2020 - 8:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. both days

Please Be Advised – There is a Processing Fee for each Student’s Completion Card. This Non-Refundable Fee Must Be Received Or The Completion Card Will Not Be Released To The Student. Payment of $10.00 per student Must Be Received By The First Day Of Class. If Paying By Check – Please Make Payable To: Safety Source Consultants. Please Be Aware OSHA Regulations Prohibit The Instructor From Distributing Completion Cards To Anyone Other Than The Student Present At The Class. Cards Will Not Be Distributed To Employers. If A Copy Is Required, Please Have Your Employee Provide One.

Students must attend both days in order to receive their completion card

Students gain the ability to recognize safety and health hazards and appropriate engineering, administrative, and personal protective equipment controls. Completion also meets the requirements for OSHA 10-Hour training under NYS's existing prevailing rate law for public work of $250,000 or more effective June 18, 2008. OSHA states that training must be delivered in a language employees understand. SBE classes are currently designed for English speaking participants. If an employee is not fluent in English and does not clearly understand English and will not benefit from a class due to the language barrier, the instructor reserves the right to refer that individual to alternative resources for training. Employers may contact the local OSHA office at 315-451-0808 for information on training provided in languages other than English.This course is free to Syracuse Builders Exchange Member firms. Limit of 4 people per company due to demand.
